About Me
I have been trained psychoanalytically, but don’t worry, I won’t be quoting Freud in my work. My approach is person-centered, relational, and emotionally-focused.
It is informed by psychoanalytic theory and the following Evidenced-Based Practices: ACT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT.
My psychology training began years before I read my first science journal, as an artist.
Prior to pursuing my doctoral degree in Psychology, I received a Master of Fine Arts degree. As an artist, I became fascinated by how human connection and creative expression can lead to individual growth. I devoted much of my life to the arts, creativity, and performance. My creative spirit greatly influences my work with my patients.
There truly is an art and science to my work. I like to work creatively in many different artistic mediums. When I am engrossed in a project, I do not approach it in a structured manner. I do not know where I am going, but my ideas, words, and images begin to fit together. I become actively engaged in a process that requires me to listen closely to myself.
This is how individual therapy looks for most people. They do not know exactly where to start and they certainly do not know how it will end. In the process, they learn how to listen more closely to themselves and they become more connected to their feelings.
My patients describe having this experience in individual therapy. They report feeling more authentic and genuine in the ways they relate to others and the ways they relate to themselves.
